Turkey Aims to Boost Flour Exports to Expand Global Share
Mesut Cakmak, head of the Turkish Flour Industrialists’ Association, highlighted that despite global trade slowdowns and geopolitical tensions, Türkiye’s flour sector exported 2.34 million tons of wheat flour last year.
Speaking at the association’s 20th international congress in Antalya, held under the theme “Sustainable Future: Climate, Water, Agriculture,” Cakmak noted that exports to Syria experienced rapid growth, with monthly shipments climbing from 18,000 tons last year to between 55,000 and 65,000 tons. He added that Türkiye’s strong brand reputation helps the sector maintain a competitive advantage against other regional producers, such as Egypt.
The federation expects domestic wheat production to surpass 20 million tons in 2026, aided by favorable rainfall since January, boosting optimism for the harvest.
Looking ahead, Türkiye’s flour industry is preparing for a major transformation next year, with a government regulation requiring 40% of flour used in commercial bread production to be whole wheat, aiming to improve national nutritional standards.
